The PM's spokesperson said that all observed the two-metre social distancing rule during the meeting but they did not wear face masks

The PM’s spokesperson refused to say whether Mr Johnson will go back into isolation, adding that he will ‘follow medical advice’.

According to track and trace procedures, those who have already had coronavirus and self-isolated – including the prime minister – will not be exempt from the scheme if they are found to have been in contact with someone who has tested positive. If Mr Johnson and Mr Sunak refuse to go into isolation arguing that they maintained social distancing, the track and trace scheme could be undermined

Mr Sharma was seen displaying Covid-19 symptoms in the commons on Wednesday. He appeared to be sweating and was seen mopping his brow and cheeks with a handkerchief and wiping his nose.A spokesperson for Mr Sharma said he started feeling unwell while in the chamber delivering the second reading of the Corporate Governance and Insolvency Bill and later went home to isolate.

After the footage emerged of Mr Sharma struggling through his comments in the commons, Labour shadow minister Toby Perkins said: ‘This is not ok. If he has symptoms that could be Covid-19, it’s not up to him to soldier on, he is jeopardising the health of everyone who he comes across and everyone else who touches that despatch box and every door handle he touches etc’.

It was later reported that the despatch box underwent a thorough clean after the session due to the Business Secretary’s appearance.Mr Sharma’s health could spark calls for MPs to go back to remote voting after it was scrapped this week.
