Border Patrol moved to process hundreds of migrants who had been waiting between the layers of border fence earlier this week, leaving them at transit centers

Hundreds of migrants who had been waiting between layers of border fencing to enter the United States have since been processed by federal authorities, with many migrants then being dropped off by U.S. Border Patrol agents at transit centers throughout San Diego County.

At least 300 people were expected to arrive in the county Thursday, according to Pedro Rios, the San Diego program director of the American Friends Service Committee. He said it is likely that most are seeking asylum in the U.S.between the two layers of the border wall. In previous months, migrants reported being required to wait there for several days with minimal food, shelter and water.

Alviarez was taken to a processing station on Tuesday, where she stayed until Thursday morning, when she was transported to a transit station in Otay Mesa. Migrants load onto a bus to be processed after being stuck between the U.S.-Mexico border walls on Sept. 13, 2023. A small group of young men from Mauritania were hoping to make it to New York, where they heard there was a men’s shelter they could go to.
