Approximately 47,000 illegal immigrants were apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents at the southern border in November, down from 55,000 to 61,000 each month since June,and implemented a new rule to turn away people at the border rather than release thousands who were crossing daily into the interior of the country to await court dates years down the road.

Border Patrol’s overseeing agency, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, has attributed several actions to the drop, as well as bilateral talks with Mexican government officials last December that have led to improved cooperation between countries in dealing with illegal immigration. In May, CBP said it was ramping up removal flights for the return of illegal immigrants to their countries once they reach the southern border. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas over his management of the southern border and have long-touted Trump’s border policies as the only way to return illegal immigration levels to previous norms.
