The agency is expected to release soon the findings of an investigation into its agents’ role in the flawed response to the shooting. A look at the key issues.
The police response to the 2022 Uvalde school shooting has been condemned as an egregious failure, marred by hesitation, indecision and an unwillingness to confront the attacker. The Border Patrol appeared to be an exception, at least at first. Its agents stormed the classroom at Robb Elementary School and killed the shooter, accomplishing what scores of local and state law enforcement officers had failed to do for the preceding 77 minutes.
Did first responders to Uvalde shooting lack courage or the right equipment? But questions soon began to be raised about the Border Patrol's role and whether its agents could have ended the siege more quickly. The agency's parent organization, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, said it was investigating. That was more than two years ago. Now, CBP is preparing to release its findings, according to news reports. Here's a look at the key issues.
