A Scots primary school was evacuated on Thursday afternoon after an item was discovered in the school grounds.

The bomb squad were called to Bonaly Primary School in the Bonaly Road area of Edinburgh after an item, believed to be an antique military piece, was found.Teachers and students were evacuated during the police operation as a specialist team undertook a sweep of the area.In a letter sent to parents and carers, head teacher Kirstie Miller said: "You may be aware of an incident at Bonaly Primary School today. An item, believed to be an antique military piece, was found in the school grounds.

"We were supported by the emergency services who directed our safe evacuation and removal of the item. The specialist team undertook a sweep of the area to provide assurance in terms of safety. "We returned to school safely and I have personally checked in with all children and staff to reassure them."
