Heavy rain and strong winds pounded parts of California and the Pacific Northwest early Monday, causing flooding, landslides, road closures and power outages
that have burned nearly 2.5 million acres in the state this year, according to data from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the U.S. Forest Service.
Flooding on State Route 99 in the southern part of Sacramento led to lane closures and traffic delays late Sunday,, which maintains the state highway system in nearly a dozen counties in the northern part of the state.
