Secretary of State candidate Reginald Bolding and his nonprofit are subjects of a referral to the Arizona attorney general for possible campaign violations.
There is reasonable cause to believe Reginald Bolding and the nonprofit he runs violated campaign finance law during last summer's secretary of state primary and should be investigated, the Arizona Secretary of State's Office said Friday as it referred the matter to the state Attorney General's Office.
The referral also suggests more needs to be learned about $836,000 in donations from Our Voice Our Vote's political action committee to Bolding's campaign. Nearly $244,000 of those contributions were made before the nonprofit created a document walling Bolding off from most actions of the nonprofit for the duration of his political candidacy.
However, the secretary of state declined to find a reason to investigate the allegation of illegal coordination, although the attorney general could take another direction.Reginald Bolding said he created a 'firewall' for his campaign in 2021. The document tells another story The referral was made on the final day of Katie Hobbs' tenure as secretary of state, before handing the reins to Adrian Fontes and moving up to the Governor's Office.
