The Springboks are set to warm up for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France with a match against Argentina in Buenos Aries.
The world champions will face the Pumas on 5 August at the Velez Sarsfield Stadium in a fixture that is not part of a reduced 2023 Rugby Championship. Argentina’s rugby union, UAR, made the announcement over the New Year.
“We hope to have a great year, always trying to improve all aspects of our rugby, so that more and more people can enjoy the sport, either as athletes or spectators, and that we can continue to grow the passion for rugby,” read a statement from UAR president Gabriel Travaglini.Sanzaar is yet to announce the rest of the fixtures of the 2023 Rugby Championship, which is shortened due to the World Cup that kicks off on 8 September.
The Boks are already scheduled to play a match against Wales in Cardiff as part of their World Cup preparations. The match will take place at Principality Stadium on 19 August, with South Africa’s title defence set to kick off a few weeks later when they face Scotland in Marseille on 10 September, before crossing paths with Romania , Ireland and Tonga in Pool B encounters.
