The Springboks will shift gear going into Saturday's clash against Ireland with two burning selection questions: does Deon Fourie bench as the reserve hooker and will Handre Pollard be pressed into action?
The Springboks have two important selection questions surrounding Deon Fourie and Handre Pollard that need to be addressed this week.
However, Ireland, who boast an impressive lineout that they, like the Boks, base most of their attack on, will be licking their chops at the prospect of the Boks fielding an individual who, at best, is capable but nowhere near Malcolm Marx's class. Having Van Staden and Fourie on the bench will give Nienaber the comfort of reverting to the better part of the pack that featured against Scotland sans the departed Marx, while Eben Etzebeth's fitness race is one that looks to be won.
Nienaber admitted during Sunday's post-match press conference that there would be players who would be unlucky when it comes to non-selection for the Ireland game, but he said their preparation role in for the game remains important."Unfortunately, some guys will be unlucky, but their job will move from playing against Ireland to being Ireland in the week and being the best version of Ireland they can be.
