On the opening drive, Oregon State’s defense forced a 4th and 1, but Boise State's star RB Ashton Jeanty reached the line to gain. Later, R-Soph QB Maddux Madsen found WR Austin Bolt on a drag route down the middle for an 11-yard touchdown pass. During the Broncos’ 14-play grind, Jeanty notched 8 carries for 35 yards.
Late in the second quarter, the smurf turf’s hosts left the Beavers feeling blue, but a methodical drive destined for points resulted instead in disaster; Ashton Jeanty approached the goal-line on an impressive run up the middle, where DB Skylar Thomas met him with a well-placed punch of the ball. DB Niko Taylor recovered it at the eight-yard line.
The Broncos matched Hankerson’s electric run with an impressive two minute drill of their own: 8 plays, 75 yards, in just under 90 seconds. Madsen capped things off with a six-yard flick to WR Latrell Caples, and Boise State went into halftime up 21-7. On the opening play of the fourth quarter, a Gulbranson screen pass found WR Trent Walker, who suffered an ankle injury and would not return. WR Darrius Clemons filled in, with an electric catch-and-run touchdown and 2PAT jump ball to claw Oregon State within two possessions, 27-18.
