Boerne's boys and girls soccer teams are getting ready for the UIL state tournament. The girls will play Salado in the Class 4A state semifinals, while the boys will face Kilgore. The boys are returning to the tournament after winning back-to-back championships in 2021 and 2022.
BOERNE – There was a sense of anticipation early Monday morning when Boerne ’s boys and girls soccer team took the field for practice, and it had nothing to do with the eclipse. The Greyhounds went through light recovery workouts preparing for the UIL state tournament that begins Wednesday. The girls play Salado in the Class 4A state semifinals at 1:30 p.m. at Birkelbach Field in Georgetown. The boys follow and face Kilgore at 4 p.m.

The Greyhounds missed qualifying last year by one match after losing in penalty kicks against eventual state champion Hidalgo in the regional finals. Boerne avenged that loss by defeating Hidalgo 3-2 in the regional semifinals Friday.

Sawyer and Stringfellow, who has scored 17 goals and tallied 15 assists this season, started in last season’s 2-0 state semifinal loss against eventual state champion Celina.
