Boeing will build JDAM tail kits, spares, repairs, technical and Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition sensor kits as part of the contract.
The US Department of Defense has announced that Boeing has won a contract worth approximately $7.5 billion to build kits for turning bombs into guided weapons – commonly known as Joint Direct Attack Munition for the Air Force .
The Air Force has not revealed the number of JDAM kits that will be supplied by Boeing under the contract. The timeline for delivery by the company is end of February 2030.the contract, according to the Air Force. Some pieces will also go to foreign customers, with over $228 million of the contract coming from foreign military sales funds.existing free-fall bombs into accurately guided smart weapons.
According to Boeing, JDAM can be dropped from a flexible release envelope over 15 miles from a target. Advanced versions of JDAMs are also offered by Boeing. These include Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition , and Powered Joint Direct Attack Munition .against moving targets, and maritime targets with its higher accuracy., the cost of one unit of JDAM can range from $25,000 to $84,000- depending on the pieces brought and other factors. Therefore, the number of units which will be received by the Air Force cannot be arrived at with certainty.
