Two days on the picket line have now passed following a vote to overwhelmingly reject a new labor contract.
Employee, Vaughn Johnson said, “they don’t want to pay us fairly. We’ve had good profits enough that the CEOs get bonuses, but they’re not willing to pay us more. We got a one percent in the last 8 years of a raise. That doesn’t cover even inflation for one year.”
“If they believe in us, then they know what offer we want and they know what to do,” employee Khris Kiaaina said.Boeing strike threatens production as workers demand respect and fair wagesAn analyst quoted by the Associated Press stated if it lasts into mid-November, it could cost the company $3.5 billion in cash flow.
For perspective, they added that the eight-week strike in 2008, cost the company $100 million dollars a day in deferred revenue.At this point, Boeing has not told KOMO News how much money they might lose. In a statement on Saturday, a company spokesperson said, “the message was clear that the tentative agreement we reached with IAM leadership was not acceptable to the members. We remain committed to resetting our relationship with our employees and the union, and we are ready to get back to the table to reach a new agreement.”
Boeing sent out a press release on Friday indicating that a federal mediator would now be involved and a new round of contract talks would begin early next week.
