Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has introduced a bill to abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Boebert and Rep. Eric Burlison (R-MO) argue the ATF is detrimental to constitutional rights and has a history of overreach.
Rep. Lauren Boebert , R-Colo., has introduced a bill to abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives ( ATF ), the congresswoman. She argued in a press release the bureau should be eliminated before it 'eventually' abolishes the Second Amendment . “I cannot imagine under any circumstance or administration where the ATF serves as an ally to the Second Amendment and law-abiding firearm owners across America,” Rep. Boebert said.
“As co-chair of the Congressional Second Amendment Caucus, I’m eager to continue this effort with Rep. Burlison to defend our constitutional rights.” Rep. Eric Burlison, R-Mo., who co-sponsored the bill, suggested in a statement the bureau has “no place in our government.” “The ATF is emblematic of the deep-state bureaucracy that believes it can infringe on constitutional liberties without consequence,” he said. “If this agency cannot uphold its duty to serve the people within the framework of the Constitution, it has no place in our government.” Rep. Burlison published by Fox News in November the ATF has violated the Second Amendment for decades. Every time they try to get involved, they mess things up,” Rep. Burlison said. 'They have a long history of mistakes of abusing individual Second Amendment rights.” “This is an agency that – it just continues to violate citizens’ rights and Second Amendment rights. And I think that at the end of the day, this agency needs to be abolished, and we need to let the states police what happens in the states,” he continued. In February of 2023, Rep. Boebert said she was waiting to hear a good reason why ATF should “remain an agency at all.” “Instead of providing regulations that keep our communities safe, this agency has made our communities more dangerous by wandering weapons to the cartels,” she claimed. When reached for comment, a spokesperson for ATF defended the agency's value to The National News Desk (TNND). 'ATF plays a critical role in keeping the American people safe by enforcing federal firearms laws passed by Congress, supporting state and local law enforcement operations with investigative leads through ATF crime gun intelligence tools, and protecting communities from violent crime by removing thousands of violent offenders from the streets each year,' the spokesperson said
