BREAKING: Bodycam footage has been released that shows five Memphis officers attacking and beating Tyre Nichols during a traffic stop on January 7.
. But the video was not made public until Friday — partially because of the ongoing investigation, but also because officials feared protests could grow violent.
In the surveillance footage, entitled "Video 2," multiple officers can be seen taking turns striking Nichols with their baton. What police say about the video "This is not just a professional failing. This is a failing of basic humanity toward another individual," Davis said in a video statement released late Wednesday on social media.
