The sheriff’s office said 22 recovery workers responded, but avalanche conditions were too dangerous for several days to continue looking for the hikers.Colchuck Peak has an elevation of 8,705 feet and is at the south end of Colchuck Lake, about eight miles south of Leavenworth and 114 miles east of Seattle.
