Authorities in Rhode Island said they found the body of a 5-year-old girl who was reported missing late Wednesday night.
Authorities say the missing child was identified as 5-year-old Naomi Thomas, who lived in Providence R.I. Her body was later found at a park in the city, police say. who was reported missing late Wednesday night.
The Providence Police Department said officers searched for the child overnight, and confirmed Thursday morning she had been found dead.According to the department, she was found in the water near swan boats at Roger Williams Park.The department said it searched for hours using K-9s and drones before they found her body.
The child was rescued by police and the Providence Fire Department and transported to Hasbro Children's Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead."That’s a freak accident -- that’s a freak accident -- but we’re Christian we believe in God. We’re going to lean on the lord because you can’t do it yourself," said Fatu Dorley Cooper, who said she was the girl's aunt.
The Department of Children Youth and Families said it has been notified of the child's death and has had no prior history with the family.
