The news was initially shared on Sunday morning through a Facebook post allegedly made by Standifer's family, announcing the discovery of his body. On Monday, Standifer's grandmother, Sandy Koyukuk, confirmed to Alaska 's News Source that the 21-year-old had been found dead .
Koyukuk stated that Fairbanks Police Department (FPD) officers arrived at her home to deliver the news, explaining that Standifer's body was discovered by someone riding a bicycle. While FPD Spokesperson Teal Soden confirmed the finding of a body near Eagan Avenue on Saturday evening, she refrained from disclosing the deceased's identity, emphasizing that the department is awaiting positive identification from the state medical examiner's office in Anchorage. Soden added that FPD would investigate any social media posts suggesting body discoveries that the department is unaware of. She also stated that the state medical examiner will determine the cause of death, and further details will be released upon confirmation. Following the family's initial post, numerous messages on social media platforms have expressed condolences and prayers for Standifer's family. Consequently, a planned search effort scheduled for May 3 has been canceled.
