A body has been found amid the ongoing search for American Airlines flight attendant Eric Fernando Gutierrez Molina, after he was reported missing following a layover in Medellin, Colombia, the city's mayor posted on Friday.
According to local television station Telemedellín, the 32-year-old Molina arrived in the city on Saturday night and was scheduled to return to the United States on a flight to Miami on Sunday morning,In a post to X on Friday, Federico"Fico" Gutierrez, the mayor of Medellin, said in part,"I have to deliver some sad news. Since last Sunday, we have been searching for Eric Gutiérrez, a U.S. citizen who is missing. Unfortunately, a lifeless body has just been found between the municipality of Jericó and Puente Iglesias." Gutierrez continued in part in the translated post,"There is a very high probability that it is this person. The lifeless body is being transported to legal medicine in Medellín for identification and recognition. We express our solidarity to his family and friends. I have just personally delivered the painful news to his father, who is in Medellín." ABC News reports that authorities said he was last seen with a man and woman after a party in the El Poblado neighborhood.on Friday, a State Department spokesperson said,"The Trump Administration has no greater priority than the safety and security of Americans, and the State Department stands ready to provide all consular assistance to Americans in need abroad. "We are aware of these reports and are closely tracking the situation. When Americans are missing abroad, we can help their families and friends to file missing persons reports and help them understand local procedures. Due to privacy and other considerations, we have nothing additional to add at this time."Gutierrez also said on his X post in part that he informed the U.S. ambassador to Colombia and consul general of this"sad situation." According to ABC News, American Airlines said in a statement that"We are actively engaged with local law enforcement officials in their investigation and doing all we can to support our team member's family during this time."
