AKRON, Ohio - Akron Mayor Shammas Malik released the body-cam video and personnel file Monday of the police officer who shot a 15-year-old boy earlier this month.
Akron Police Officer Ryan Westlake, 33, responded to the call and can be seen on the body-cam video opening fire on the teen as soon as he exited his patrol cruiser.“Can I see your hands real quick?” Officer Westlake shouted at the teen after shooting him in the right hand.“Drop to the ground drop, to the ground, drop to the ground, drop to the ground,” Westlake shouted back.
“In an effort to be as transparent as possible, we are releasing both the body camera footage showing the officer’s entire interaction with the adolescent who was shot, and the officer’s personnel file,” said Mayor Malik. “We will continue to be transparent and communicative as the process unfolds.”
