Singer and Philadelphia native Bobby Rydell died from non-Covid-19 related pneumonia complications on Tuesday at Jefferson Hospital, according to his spokesperson.

PHILADELPHIA --

The 1950s teen idol was known for his hits 'Wildwood Days,' 'Volare,' 'Swinging School,' among many others.Producers of the 70s romantic comedy 'Grease' named the high school after Rydell to pay tribute to the era in which the popular musical was set.The 1963 megahit"Wildwood Days" is the anthem for the popular South Jersey town. Wildwood continues to play Rydell's song to this day to welcome visitors to the seaside destination.

For over 30 years, the singer has performed in hundreds of shows. He was scheduled to sing at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City in June. Rydell is survived by his wife, Linda J. Hoffman, son Robert Ridarelli, daughter Jennifer Dulin, and his five grandchildren
