The Dodgers’ 24-year-old pitcher making his third career start had no trouble handling the New York Yankees, or a national Sunday Night Baseball audience.

The back-end bullpen trio of Brusdar Graterol, Evan Phillips and Caleb Ferguson was not so fortunate, and the Dodgers lost to the Yankees, 4-1 before an announced crowd of 52,816 at Dodger Stadium.

The Yankees did not collect a hit until Anthony Volpe singled in the fifth inning. A 1-2-3 sixth inning left Miller’s pitch count at 86, nine shy of the 95 he threw in his debut against the Atlanta Braves. With the score 1-1 in the eighth inning, the Dodgers turned to Phillips, who walked Anthony Rizzo with one out. A scorching double to center field by Giancarlo Stanton sent Rizzo to third, and Oswaldo Cabrera’s ground ball to second baseman Miguel Vargas brought in Rizzo with the Yankees’ second run.
