Executive Bob Myers addressed the Philadelphia 76ers' decision to trade Jared McCain to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Bob Myers, the president of sports for Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment, is overseeing president of basketball operations in an interim capacity following the Myers took the podium for a press conference alongside managing partner Josh Harris on Thursday, answering questions about the team's direction as they search for a new executive.
The 76ers received a great deal of criticism for their decision to trade 2024 first-round draft pick Jared McCain to the reigning-champion Oklahoma City Thunder. McCain played sparingly for the 76ers, but has since carved out a significant role as a key bench player for the Thunder. McCain averaged 11.5 points per game through the Thunder's second-round series sweep over the Los Angeles Lakers, shooting a ridiculous 63.2% from behind the 3-point arc.
"I'm not gonna disparage Daryl here today. I think he did a fine job and I think he's a good person," Myers said of the trade.
"That was a few months ago. Right now, we have the 22nd pick, our job is to get that right. We have 3 second-round picks from it," he continued.
"We should be graded on the ultimate result of transactions like that. "McCain and the Thunder will face off against the winner of the San Antonio Spurs vs. Minnesota Timberwolves series in the Western Conference Finals.
