More generally, the theatrical exhibition business continues its erratic climb out of pandemic perdition. Slightly more than halfway through the year, the $4.7 billion domestic box office through July 13 has surpassed 2021’s shambling full-year total. But it remains far less than half of the $11 billion-plus the industry collected annually between 2015 and and 2019.
