The former Penn State wrestling champion scored an easy win Saturday night, but his opponent now plans to appeal the result.

. “It seems these types of issues from judges and officials are becoming more and more common in MMA. At the end of the day they are human; however a fighter who trains his ass off should not be penalized for mistakes by individuals who are paid to make the best judgements for the integrity of the sport.”The site said Nickal “seemed puzzled” by the statement after the fight.

“I hit him in the leg, in the thigh,” the former Penn State wrestling champ said post-fight. “I had him in a bad position along the wall. He wanted to get off the wall and he wanted the ref to stop it. If I were to have actually hit him low, I would feel bad because I don’t want to win that way. I’m not a cheater. I’m somebody who tries to take short cuts. If I did hit him low, I would’ve just relaxed probably or let the ref stop it. But I didn’t hit him low at all, so it’s a weird move, bro.

MMA Junkie said video replay was available to the referee, Keith Peterson, in the fight but he did not use it. It noted that appeals are often accepted by state regulatory bodies, but results are rarely overturned. It said that the review process of appeals are often “done behind closed doors.” Nickel threw a wild kick at Pickett to start the fight. He missed and dropped to the canvas, but he got up and dominated from there. Nickal took Pickett pushed Pickett up against the cage, threw the knee, got the takedown and went to work to get the submission win.“I’ve been doing MMA for a year and a half,” Nickal said in the octagon afterward. “I”m just going to keep getting better and keep dominating, and you can bet your ass I’m going to get that belt.
