BMW unveiled a special edition of its Mustang GTD called the Spirit of America at the 2025 North American International Auto Show. This limited-edition model celebrates American ingenuity and the Mustang's racing history with patriotic styling and performance upgrades.
The auto giant unveiled a patriotic version of its outrageous range-topping muscle car called the Spirit of America before the start of the 2025 North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Thursday. The special edition is meant to be a celebration of American ingenuity and 60 years of racing success for its iconic pony car. Few cars scream out that they were made in the States louder than the seventh-generation ‘Stang.
It’s the biggest and brashest iteration of the nameplate yet and could only come from one country. This is even more true of the Spirit of America and its model-specific color scheme. The GTD’s sculpted body is finished primarily in Performance White bisected by a pair of red and blue racing stripes. The interior, from the sports seats to the dashboard, is covered mainly in Black Onyx upholstery but also features red, white, and blue accents throughout.A unique color scheme isn’t all that separates the Spirit of America from other GTDs. The variant will also be outfitted in a carbon-fiber body kit designed to improve aerodynamic performance and increase downforce. The kit includes a front splitter, rear diffuser, and, most notably all, an even larger rear wing.That new body kit is it as far as performance upgrades go. The rest of the GTD remains untouched, which we don’t think anyone will find fault with. The high-performance model is the most hardcore stock Mustang of all time. It’s powered by a front-mounted supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 connected to an eight-speed dual-clutch rear-transaxle gearbox that generates a ferocious 815 hp and 664 ft lbs of torque.after it circled the complex’s notorious 12.94-mile Nordschleife circuit in just 6:57:685 minutes. In doing so, it bested a record that had stood for over seven years. It’ll be interesting to see how long the GTD’s mark stands for, especially since the Ford didn’t say how many examples of the GTD Spirit of America it will build but expects it to be very exclusive since the automaker. We’ll also have to wait on a price but expect it to come in north of the “standard” variant’s $325,000 starting cost
