Senator Richard Blumenthal warns that Trump's plans for pardons, cabinet nominations, and election denialism signal a continued battle for Democrats.

Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., wrote on social media platform X. “Not with Trump planning blanket pardons.

Not with dangerously unqualified, malignly motivated Trump nominees. Not with Trump normalizing election denial. The fight is just beginning.” Trump has pledged to review the cases of people charged with crimes related to the Jan. 6, 2021 riot at the Capitol. Some of the nominees for his Cabinet, such as former National Guard officer Pete Hegseth and former Hawaii congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, have also been criticized by some Democrats. Trump has also repeatedly denied the results of the 2020 election, which he lost to President Joe Biden. Some Democratic state officials have pledged to challenge the incoming Trump administration, including attorneys general in New York and California. New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a press conference following Trump’s win she had been preparing to “fight back” for several months. “Despite what has happened on the national stage, we will continue to stand tall in the face of injustice, revenge or retribution,” she noted. “We will continue to protect and our most vulnerable and marginalized amongst us.” California Attorney General Rob Bonta also said in November he would use his authority to “stand up for all people” no matter the “politics.” “You can be sure that as California Attorney General, if Trump attacks your rights, I’ll be there. If Trump comes after your freedoms, I’ll be there. If Trump jeopardizes your safety and your well-being, I’ll be there,” he said in a press conference
