Progressive journalist Jesse Singal faces intense harassment on Bluesky, with users making death threats and attempting to expose his personal information due to his criticism of the transgender agenda. Bluesky's response to these threats has been criticized as inadequate, raising concerns about the safety of users on the platform.
Bluesky , a social media platform experiencing rapid growth as users dissatisfied with Elon Musk's X/Twitter migrate, is facing criticism for its inadequate response to death threats and attempted doxxing directed at progressive journalist Jesse Singal. Singal, while considered an ultraleftist, has been the target of intense hostility on Bluesky due to his critiques of the transgender agenda.
According to Singal's reporting in The Free Press, Bluesky, originally launched by Twitter in 2019 before becoming independent, has allowed users to make death threats and attempt to expose his personal information due to his stances on the transgender movement. Singal, who has been covering youth gender medicine for nearly a decade, joined Bluesky in early December. Upon joining, he encountered a wave of hostile messages, including some expressing a desire for his death. One user, @billkezos.bsky.social, even provided instructions on how to shoot Singal. Despite Singal tagging Bluesky's online safety handle and reporting the threats, the platform appeared to take no action against the users. The situation worsened when @billkezos.bsky.social posted what they claimed to be Singal's address, prompting other users to call for visits to his residence with the intention of harming or killing him. Singal promptly informed Bluesky's moderation team and CEO Jay Graber about the attempted doxxing but alleges he received no substantial response for hours as the address continued to spread. It was only after Singal suggested a temporary ban on the address that Bluesky took action, approximately seven hours after the initial report
