Inspired by the country life and travels with his mother, Anthony Alvarez’s collection had a less exuberant feel this season, amply highlighting delicate design details found in references to nature walks and fallen leaves. Another leitmotif came from a childhood ritual in France, “le goûter,” an after-school snack where families often sit together and share stories and treats.
He wanted to share the nostalgic experience with his guests, seating them on vintage-style plush sofas or around old dining tables piled high with cakes prepared by chef Mory Sacko. Beaded embroideries evoked foliage or the fringed adornments on vintage lampshades in a country house, found as edging on fluffy neck warmers or as fringing over the eyes on the balaclavas of the final looks, the most outlandish in the lineup, where the models wore a series of trailing quilts embroidered with crystals.
Ample shirts with voluminous sleeves and pleating gave a period feel, while shell suits had placement embroidery evoking lace doilies. There was plenty of color — yellow and red poplin, turquoise velvet — and lots of cozy knits. One sweater featured a tree-of-life motif, others looked like fleece hoodies but were actually bubbly wool.
Fridge magnets collected from around the world found their way onto a series of tunics as patches, while footwear options included knee-high Camargue boots and embroidered Uggs via a collaboration with the cozy footwear brand..
