The Toronto Blue Jays would reportedly need a major roster shake up in order to bring back Bo Bichette this winter.

The Toronto Blue Jays announced the Kazuma Okamoto signing on Tuesday. While the organization was thrilled to add him to the roster, the offseason isn't complete yet. For much of the offseason, the Blue Jays have reportedly been trying to find a way to make it work infielder Bo Bichette.

However, the two sides had not been able to agree to a deal as of Tuesday evening and Mitch Bannon reported that Toronto would likely have to trade Anthony Santander to even have a chance at bringing Bichette back to the organization. MIAMI, FLORIDA - AUGUST 22: Bo Bichette #11 of the Toronto Blue Jays reacts while at bat against the Miami Marlins in the eighth inning of the game at loanDepot park on August 22, 2025 in Miami, Florida. “While some in the Blue Jays organization remain advocates for signing the 27-year-old Bichette, the club’s infield as currently constructed appears crowded,“ Bannon wrote for The Athletic. “Perhaps if Bichette elects to take a shorter deal with opt-outs, similar to the contracts signed by Alex Bregman, Pete Alonso, and Cody Bellinger in recent offseasons, the Jays could make things work for a year. More likely, Toronto would have to make a significant trade, like moving Anthony Santander with four years left on his deal, to open room for Bichette.“ Trading Santander would free up a spot in the lineup as Okamoto or Vladimir Guerrero Jr. could shift to designated hitter and give Bichette a position to play in the field. If Okamoto left third base, Ernie Clement would likely slide over which would leave second base open for Bichette. As Bannon points out, there is one big issue with trying to trade Santander. He was hurt for much of last season, so the Blue Jays would already be taking a loss with selling low. Add in the exuberant amount of money Toronto still owes Santander, and the odds of a trade decline even further. Simply put, it would take a miracle for the Blue Jays to be able to bring back Bichette. General manager Ross Atkins can try to pull some strings, but it's looking less likely by the day that the veteran infielder returns to Toronto.
