Three takeaways from the Blue Jackets' 6-4 victory over the Montreal Canadiens
Almost half of the Blue Jackets’ lineup is sidelined by injuries, but it hasn’t kept them from playing their best hockey in a brutal start to the season.
Columbus still isn’t playing well, again winding up on the wrong side of a 42-29 shot differential, but the Blue Jackets aren’t rolling over either. They’re battling, getting key goals, clutch goaltending and now head into a weekend back-to-back against the Detroit Red Wings and Florida Panthers looking to keep it going.
“He made some good saves , but the second and third he was busy,” Blue Jackets coach Brad Larsen said. “Way too busy for my liking … but Korpi made some huge saves at key times to keep us in that .” Larsen has put them in situations against top opposing lines much of the season, but it’s been a battle to gain a stalemate or possession to create their own chances. In this one, they created goals for Kuraly and Olivier in the third despite the final stats showing it was a tough night for their line in other statistical measures.
Kuraly, who’s scored goals in consecutive games, also won a faceoff cleanly to Olivier for his goal after suggesting the play before the puck was dropped.
