Columbus Blue Jackets forward Kirill Marchenko is facing an indefinite period on the sidelines after undergoing surgery to repair a broken jaw. Marchenko suffered the injury when a puck struck him in the face while he was seated on the team bench during theMarchenko, 24, has been a standout performer for the surging Blue Jackets this season, registering 21 goals and 34 assists for a total of 55 points in 53 games. His performance has set new career highs in assists, points, and plus/minus rating, with a league-leading +31. He also leads the Blue Jackets in goals and ranks second in assists and points.
Also this season, Marchenko became the first player in franchise history to score 20 or more goals in each of his first three NHL seasons. The 6-foot-3, 197-pound forward from Barnaul, Russia, was selected by Columbus in the second round, 49th overall, in the 2018 NHL Draft.
