'Stop burning things down to tell everyone about your kid's penis,' says Jenna Karvunidis on Facebook, after a gender reveal party led to a wildfire in California.
One of the first few bloggers to hold gender reveal parties has called on people to stop doing them, afterThe California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection said in a September 6 press release that the El Dorado fire in San Bernardino – one of multiple wildfires razing through California – was"caused by a smoke generating pyrotechnic device, used during a gender reveal party."
"For the love of God, stop burning things down to tell everyone about your kid's penis. No one cares but you," she said in a September 8 Facebook post. She also responded to those sending hate messages, saying"Excuse me for having a cake for my family in 2008. Just because I'm the gEnDeR rEvEaL iNVeNtoR [sic] doesn't mean I think people should burn down their communities."
