Michael Iskander as David in'House of David'

While Netflix's House of Guinness is spiraling down the viewership charts, the similarly titled but altogether very different show, House of David, is proving to be quite successful on Prime Video. The Biblical drama recently returned for a second season, resulting in an instant spike in viewership figures.

House of David debuted its first season earlier this year and has emerged as a major streaming hit. It is designed to follow David's journey over a multi-season arc, and is aimed at not only religious audiences, but a broader viewer base. According to FlixPatrol, House of David was the eighth-most-watched show domestically on Prime Video on October 7, ahead of the fellow religious title The Chosen. House of David hails from filmmaker Jon Erwin, who has considerable experience in this space. Only a few years ago, he directed Jesus Revolution, a faith-based movie that truly broke out at the box office, grossing around $50 million domestically. Meanwhile, The Chosen series has also delivered consistent success, with episodes being released theatrically in batches over the years. The franchise has grossed over $100 million at the domestic box office. Starring Michael Iskander as David, House of David also features Avatar's Stephen Lang, and Man of Steel's Ayelet Zurer. The show's eight-episode first season currently holds a 71% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes. In his review, Collider's Erick Massoto praised the show's production value and wrote,"As far as faith-based productions go — in the sense that things tend to be over-explained — House of David is a giant leap forward, script-wise." Prime Video Has a New Faith-Based Series In the Works Prime Video is doubling down on the faith-based market, having green-lit another show, titled Joseph of Egypt. Meanwhile, the genre's recent success was likely one of the primary reasons for the long-awaited follow-up to Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ to receive the green light. The sequel, The Resurrection of the Christ, will be released in two chapters in 2027, and will feature a digitally de-aged Jim Caviezel reprising his role as Jesus. The Passion of the Christ was released two decades ago, and remains the highest-grossing faith-based film of all time, with a global box office haul of more than $600 million.
