After a dismal start to the season, can the national sevens side bounce back and put in a good performance under a new head coach?

Philip Snyman has backed the revitalised Blitzboks to make history in his first tournament as Springbok Sevens interim head coach in Hong Kong this weekend.

“I am confident that we will do well,” Snyman said as the squad finished their last field session before their opening match against Ireland at the Hong Kong Stadium tomorrow at 05:39 SA time. The fact they need a strong start was not neglected in the lead up to the tournament, especially as Ireland await in their opening match.

The first game of each tournament has proved crucial for the Blitzboks and Snyman said nothing will change. Snyman had the benefit of selecting Christie Grobbelaar and Quewin Nortje, fit again after picking up injuries in Dubai and Perth respectively, and both players will add considerably to the Blitzboks’ effort.
