A Bay Village woman, Jennifer Kasunick, who was a student at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, was tragically killed on Saturday after being struck by a train near the school's campus. Kasunick was born blind but lived a full and vibrant life, deeply involved in the music programs at both Bay Village High School and Hope College. She was a talented violinist who learned all her music by ear and was known for her joyful spirit and warmth.
She served as a resident advisor at Phelps Hall alongside her service dog, Rowdy, who survived the accident. Kasunick was a beloved figure in the Bay Village community, having participated in numerous school events, including musicals, orchestra concerts, and her graduation in 2023.She was also a nominee for the 2024 Accessibility Awareness Award at Hope College. The school is a small liberal arts college with just over 3,100 undergraduate students and is located in the western part of lower Michigan near Lake Michigan
