City of Sydney councillors voted unanimously on Monday night to introduce a blanket speed limit of 40km/h across its local government area, claiming the reduction would reduce road fatalities and injuries.
Perottet described the council’s motion as “ridiculous” when speaking on 2GB Radio earlier on Tuesday, saying a blanket approach was not balanced or reasonable.“I’m not going to automatically tick off on something like that,” he said. “When you’ve just got an arbitrary decision that makes it 40km/h in all circumstances regardless of the conditions, you’re not taking into consideration the road, access to pedestrians, whether the safety there’s safety barriers in place, whether there’s been previous accidents on those street corners.
