It was spotted heading towards South Shore
A young pelican is still missing from Blackpool Zoo after being spooked by a flock of seagulls. The pelican, which is just 14 weeks old, attempted to fly away from the seagulls onto the roof of the flamingo house, but a gust of wind carried the tiny animal away.
It was spotted heading towards the South Shore area of the seaside resort. The animal has been seen in the area since and desperate keepers are following up any sightings. The zoo, which has never experienced such an incident in its 50-year history, says searches for the pelican are continuing from "dawn to dusk every day". They also add that they "remain hopeful that it will be found".
"Blackpool Zoo has housed this magnificent species for many years and we are the only collection in the UK to have successfully bred them, which makes the youngster very special.
