Fantastic news for rollercoaster lovers 🤩
The long wait to ride the obscenely-popular Valhalla at Blackpool Pleasure may soon be over. The indoor water and fire ride, which is almost entirely in darkness, has been shut since autumn 2019 to undergo refurbishment.
But due to the pandemic and a sting of technical and logistical delays the initial plan to reopen it in 2021 soon came and went. Now, almost three years after it closed, the them park's CEO Amanda Thompson has confirmed it is edging closer to welcoming riders once again. Although it will not be ready in time for the park's 2023 season launch on March 18, Amanda has revealed that the ride is "testing" and "the water is in and things are moving in the right direction". Amanda, who was appointed managing director of the seafront park in 2004, was replying to a fan on Twitter after they asked if people would visit the Pleasure Beach if Valhalla opened on March 18, instead of rival Alton Towers .
There has been plenty of activity in the park over the off-season, with a section of The Big One retracked, a selection of other coasters receiving a makeover and rides upgraded. The attraction will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Big Dipper in August.
