Blackpool will get a lot less than neighbouring Fylde and Wyre
Blackpool’s council leader has hit out at the ‘unfair’ way local authorities are funded after the town missed out on cash which rewards house building.
The resort misses out because there is less land within its boundaries available for house building. But its infrastructure comes under pressure when houses are built on its edges such as at Richmond Point on Queensway where around 1,000 properties are due to be built within Fylde borough.
“There are numerous examples of the madness of the public financing system. The truth is, it is broken. The Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities describes the New Homes Bonus on its website as “a grant paid by central government to local councils to reflect and incentivise housing growth in their areas.
