There's unlikely to be a need for waterproofs
The big Blackpool Illuminations switch-on event takes place at the seaside resort tonight. The annual family-friendly event will see thousands of visitors descend on the promenade to marvel at the six miles of lights, which are set to glow until January 1, 2023.
If you are heading to soak in the event, which will see Sophie Ellis Bextor switch on the lights at around 9.15pm ahead of a stunning fireworks display, you may want to keep an eye on the weather forecast for the evening. With the whole extravaganza taking place outside for the first time since 2019 and the Nickelodeon Grand Parade from 7.30pm, families will be keen to enjoy the festivities in dry weather from early evening. And we have positive news for you.Forecasters have predicated a very small chance of rainfall this evening with temperatures set to reach a relatively balmy 19C. The day is set to be cloudy until around 5pm when sunny spells are expected to break through until 8pm.
Temperatures are predicated to drop a couple of degrees at 17C and 16C as night falls and the sun sets at around 7.45pm. There will also be a slight breeze, The Met Office says. Take a look at the hour-by-hour forecast ahead of one of the biggest and busiest nights of the year on the Fylde coast.
