Spice Girls star Mel C is switching on this year's lights
The Blackpool Illuminations Switch-On returns on Friday, August 30, with a star-studded lineup of performances and guest appearances. The annual celebration runs from late summer through autumn with thousands of lights giving the seaside town its famous colourful glow. The event is free to attend and sees thousands of onlookers line the streets to watch. This year's event will be held on the Tower Festival Headland staged in association with Hits Radio.
The singer makes a nostalgic return to the resort where her career first started as a 16-year-old dancer in the Mystique show at Pleasure Beach Resort. Famous faces will share the stage with a range of bright young musicians. The Upbeat Rock Academy and House of Wingz present Blackpool Introduces, a 90-minute-long showcase of local talent. They will be followed by a two-hour Hits Radio show on behalf of presenters Leanne and Joel.
