Three weeks into its time on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, Lisa’s “Money” has become a proper hit single.
... [+]For the past two months , Lisa of the band Blackpink has been making history left and right on thecharts in America. She has shown over and over that she can climb higher, sell more and reach new lists that few, if any, K-pop musicians before her could manage. This frame is no different, as one of her latest focus cuts improves once again on a notoriously competitive ranking in the U.S., and in doing so, she reaches an important milestone that no artist from her genre has hit before.
“Money” is now the first top 40 single from a K-pop musician in the history of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Lisa is actually originally from Thailand, but she launched her career in South Korea. On her own, she has reached a number of genre-specificlists, but the bulk of her output has been with the band Blackpink, one of the most successful K-pop names of all time, so Lisa is often considered a K-pop musician herself.’s rap-leaning rankings for the first time.
This week, “Money” leaps over a number of big hits from major players in the rap, hip-hop and R&B spaces, with the K-pop icon’s single beating out songs from Drake , Doja Cat and even Khalid’s just-released tune “Present” .
