Parker's story is not unique. Across the country, Black people are embracing activities that were once outside their cultural norms or hindered by systemic racism. These pursuits offer an escape from the everyday stresses and challenges of life, allowing individuals to find joy, relaxation, and a sense of personal fulfillment. Linda Goler Blount, president of the nonprofit organization, emphasizes the profound impact these activities have on mental and physical well-being. For Baudelaire Fleurant, an airplane mechanic from Minnesota, the thrill of skydiving has become a way to conquer fear, experience exhilaration, and connect with a community of like-minded individuals. After years of a demanding work schedule, Fleurant sought out a new challenge and discovered the unique and liberating experience of free-falling from thousands of feet above the ground.
