Usborne Children's Books admitted encouraging readers to touch the mermaid's 'fluffy' hair was 'problematic'.
A children’s book describing a black mermaid’s hair as ‘too fluffy’ is no longer being printed after a mother complained it was racist.
Now Usborne Children’s Books have said they decided ‘some time ago’ to ‘make changes’ to the book and to pulp all remaining stock in its warehouse. They’ve pulled the item from their website but it is still available on Amazon and other retailers including Blackwell’s.The book, written by Fiona Watt and illustrated by Rachel Wells , was released last year, marking 20 years of Usborne’s ‘That’s Not My…’ series.
