Black Lives Matter latest: UK protests turn violent as yobs deface Churchill statue and try to BURN Union Flag
Amazon boss Jeff Bezos has said he is “happy to lose” any customers who oppose the Black Lives Matter movement.
“But a better society doesn't happen overnight – like all great acts of creation, it happens slowly and depends on the cooperation of each of us toward that common goal. A petition to replace the Edward Colston statue in Bristol with one honouring civil rights campaigner Paul Stephenson has passed 15,000 signatures.
Metropolitan Police Federation chairman Ken Marsh called for urgent action from Met Commissioner Dame Cressida Dick and demanded officers are properly equipped. Graffiti was scrawled on the statue of Sir Winston Churchill in Parliament Square, while in Bristol protesters toppled the bronze memorial to slave trader Edward Colston and dumped it into the harbour.Downing Street said tearing down the Edward Colston statue in Bristol was a “criminal act” and issues such as the monument to the slave trader should be addressed through democratic processes.
As Black Lives Matter protests continued in the capital on Sunday, the 35-year-old recalled her shocking experience that took place on a posh high street in west London almost a decade ago. The Manchester City forward told BBC’s Newsnight: “This is the most important thing at this moment in time because this is something that is happening for years and years,”“At the same time, this is what all these protesters are doing. They are trying to find a solution and a way to stop the injustice they are seeing and they are fighting for their cause.
“I challenge government officials worldwide to make these changes and implement the peaceful removal of these racist symbols.”Priti Patel has been having daily calls with police leaders over the Black lives Matter protests, Downing Street has said.
