There will be performances from superstar Gabrielle, a Bridgerton paint session and a comic festival coming to Manchester during Black History Month
Held in October every year, Black History Month is a chance to celebrate and recognise the contributions and achievements black people in the UK and around the world have made.
Kiesha Thompson, Artistic Director of the Contact Theatre, will be joined by Cllr Erinma Bell MBE, peace campaigner and Deputy Lieutenant for Greater Manchester, international artist Kevin Dalton-Johnson and Ubuntu Festival Director Carol-Ann Whitehead as they discuss Bridgerton, colour blind casting, changing the narrative and their experiences within theatre, TV and film.
Comedian and Taskmaster star Sophie Duker will bring her new stand-up show Hag to The Lowry on October 13. Tickets here. Discussing historical black presence in the Wigan and Leigh areas, such as visiting clergy and entertainers as well as speakers in the anti-slavery campaign before the American Civil War, Brian will examine how these individuals got by during the Victorian period.Miss Diagnosis A panel discussion about Black women's health and incorrect diagnosis from maternal care to breast cancer will take place at The Space in Stockport on October 14.
