In the 2022-23 year, 128 deaths of under-18s were recorded across the Black Country.
A report to Walsall Council’s Health and Wellbeing Board confirmed that between April 2022 and March 2023 there had been 128 deaths of children under the age of 18 in the area.
The Black Country Child Death Overview Panel has reviewed 96 of the 128 deaths with the remaining cases still under review. Walsall recorded 29 in the same period, a rise of 11 from the previous year. And Wolverhampton had 24 child deaths - 13 more than the previous year.
