The price of digital currency bitcoin BTCUSD, +15.94% surged Tuesday, briefly topping $5,000 and hitting its highest level since November. The cryptocurency traded at $4,796.73 in recent action, a gain of 648.82, or 15.6%, from its level at 5 p.m. Eastern Monday on the Kraken exchange. Analysts struggled to identify a trigger for the rally.
