Birmingham’s Vulcan Materials Co. has entered into an agreement to acquire North Carolina-based Wake Stone Corp., an aggregates supplier.The acquisition adds quality hard rock reserves, as well as five locations in the Carolinas with more than 200 employees.

Vulcan Materials’ CEO Tom Hill said Wake Stone fits into the company’s “aggregates-led growth strategy of continuing to expand our reach to better serve more high-growth regions in the United States.” “Established in 1970, Wake Stone has successfully built a leading aggregates franchise that shares many of the same values as Vulcan,” Hill said. “Our people are at the heart of our business, and we are excited to work with the talented Wake Stone team.”last week were among six members of the body who have introduced a bill that would impose penalties on Mexico if it attempts to profit from seizing a Mexican port facility.
